The basis of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" production cycle is a large resource pool of high-grade iron ore and ferruginous quartzite (BIF) deposits. Two divisions of the company are occupied with the development of these deposits - Underground Mine Department and Mining & Beneficiation Complex.

Underground Mine Department

Underground Mine Dept. of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" is for underground mining of bedded minerals.

Based on the needs of the Steel Plant, the production capacity of UG Mine Dept. of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" for iron ore extraction is currently 700 thousand tons.

The main products of the mine are sinter ore with iron content not less than 53.5% and BF lump with iron content not less than 34%.

UG Mine Dept. of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" includes the following main areas:

  • Areas of stoping operations and cutting works;
  • Tunneling area of underground construction;
  • Crushing and sizing plant;
  • Other auxiliary areas.

Mining and Concentration

Main functions of mining and processing operations are open-cast mining and beneficiation of magnetite quartzites with low magnetic iron content. The main product of the department is magnetite iron ore concentrate with iron content of 65.3% and 68.0% and moisture content of 10.0%.

The overall area of the mining and processing facilities is 4848.7 hectares of land: open pits - 748.9 hectares, external waste rock dumps - 1250.9 hectares, tailing ponds - 899.8 hectares, processing facilities site - 822 hectares of land.

The structure of mining and processing includes two main divisions:

  • Mining and transportation/haulage (Mine, Crushing Plants No. 3, 4, Mine Transport Shop, RW dept.);
  • crushing and concentration (Crushing Plant, Ore Concentration Plants No. 1, 2, Slurry Facilities Shop);
  • and auxiliary shops (Process Water Supply Shop, Networks & Substations Shop, Repair shop).

Production capacity of PJSC "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" mining and processing facilities as of today is

  • ROM ore - about 24.9 MTPA
  • concentrate - within 10.3 MTPA.
