Day 20 years of “ArcelorMittal” in Ukraine!

Dear сolleagues,
On October 28, we celebrate an important milestone for all of us – the 20th anniversary of ArcelorMittal’s presence in Ukraine. In 2005, the Kryvorizhstal plant became part of the international ArcelorMittal family and confidently set out on the path of development, new technologies – with new drive, new values, and new goals.
Since then, we have come a long way together. We have all been witnesses and active participants of significant changes and transformations – all in pursuit of an ambitious goal: to become a modern enterprise and produce steel recognized all over the world. Over these years, we have invested more than USD 11 billion in production, technologies, environmental projects, and the development of our facilities. We have paid more than UAH 114 billion in taxes, mined over 400 million tonnes of ore, and produced more than 100 million tonnes of steel. And it is you, our employees, who have been the heart and driving force behind these changes.
We also remember the difficult times – global financial crises, the pandemic, and now the full-scale war. All these challenges have tested our resilience, tempered us, and continue to strengthen us like our strongest steel. Despite threats and losses, we have not stopped production, we have preserved jobs, and we continue to support the city and the country. More than three thousand of our colleagues are defending Ukraine with arms in hand. In our memory forever will remain those who will not return to their families and to the plant. We will continue our work in their honor and for the sake of future generations.
Today, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih operates under the most difficult conditions among all enterprises of the Group. High energy tariffs, logistical difficulties, workforce challenges, and the threats of war confront us every day. Yet, thanks to each of you, and with the support of the parent company, our plant continues to operate and stands as an example of resilience and survival.
Twenty years is more than just a date. It is a story of endurance, teamwork, and faith in the future. We remain the largest foreign investor in Ukraine, a strategic partner of the state, and a reliable pillar for Kryvyi Rih.
I want to thank all our employees, our veterans, our partners, the city, and the state for this shared journey. Ahead of us lie new challenges and new opportunities. Together, we will make every effort to overcome any difficulties, we will meet Victory, and we will become part of Ukraine’s great reconstruction.
With respect and gratitude,
Mauro Longobardo,
CEO of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih
